How high do income taxes have to get before Americans just stop working?

February 18, 2010 Taxes 13 Comments

If you add up all the taxes you pay now, Fed. Income tax, FICA, Social Security, State tax, City tax, Local tax, Property tax, Sales tax, Gas tax, etc., already most of your income goes toward paying taxes.

What percentage will be too much. Will you work when every penny you earn goes to pay your taxes or will you just say to hell with it all?

If I can not live with my income then I will just stop working and live with friends or relatives while taking my government handout.

  2. Erick says:

We’ll see in the next few years, lol.

  3. Reality has a Liberal Bias says:

It’s not even close to 100%, give me a break. And Obama is *cutting* taxes for middle-class Americans.

I’ve been at the top tax bracket, and it didn’t bother me, since I was still making a ton of money.

  4. Daze says:

If that happens, at least we’ll get a siesta between 1-4pm every day… like Europe with their high taxes.

But if we dont get a siesta? Then no deal!

  5. whimsy says:

Most of the taxes you list above have NOTHING to do with income.

the biggest waste is the local city, county as well as state taxes, and it is these that need to be addressed.

  6. Dallas S says:

    LOL…good question!

  7. I've moved to Bermuda says:

people wouldn’t all stop working at the same time
Obama would order the lazy riftraft at gunpoint to go to work
the same as what was done in the Soviet Union

  8. grump56 says:

Go to work at a fast food joint. Less money, less taxes. Rent, don’t own. I pay plenty in taxes but I do not want to trade with someone on welfare. Do you?

  9. Chin T says:

The largest problem this country is now facing is that Obama will not allow us to manufacture anything, he is bought off by the globalist who are going to have him sign the Kyoto Protocol at a 13.9% reduction in all emissions. Hence our dollar which is a promissory note for grains of silver, (or should I say a promissory note for a promissory note) will soon be worth about as much as a rock.
Trade your money in NOW for a commodity that will maintain value, the US is finished.

  10. Worldly25 says:

When you add what you posted plus all the tax already added onto utility bills and registrations and licensing fees (just another name for tax) we are already past 60%. There is not one thing we do that is not taxed by some municipality in one way or another. We will keep working since we do like eating.

  11. She says XIV says:

Many people eventually go this route, end up on welfare, and stay there because it is easier. Expect more of this with Obama at the helm.

  12. ducky says:

only conservatives worry about such things

  13. Ink Corporate says:

They wont stop working they’ll just evade their taxes
